About Troncones

Troncones is a tranquillo (mellow) beach village on the southern Pacific coast of Mexico, with a population around 500-600 people.  It has a 5 kilometer stretch of sandy beach, with sections of large rocks jutting out from the beach.  With constant, rolling waves, this area boasts some of the best surf breaks in all of Mexico - with different beaches in the area appropriate for all abilities, beginners to advanced.  The summer months bring the biggest swells and the winter months a bit more tame.

This isn't a place just for surfers though.  There are other opportunities for exploration if that's what you are seeking - from hikes to caves, a picturesque river and waterfall (during the right time of year), kayaking in the nearby estuary, visiting the more bustling town of Zihuatenejo or the tourist town of Ixtapa.  Troncones is also the perfect place to "not doing anything" and sink into a relaxing and nurturing vacation on the beach; you can tuck away in your home and just be.

Most of the people in Troncones are Mexican natives with a slow rise of ex-pats relocating to this slice of paradise. Along the beach stretch there are some small botique hotels, private homes, classic Mexican beach-side restaurants, and a  yoga/meditation retreat center (which is just 2 doors down from us).  The heart of the village has a couple of mini-markets (for produce, select staples and other random goods), restaurants, and some small shops (from a shoe shop, to surf shops, to Mexican handicrafts).  All the roads are dirt, most with big pot holes - this by default results in cars driving slow. Many people get around by bicycle.

The people who live here are super friendly and are easy to engage with.  There is an easy going pace and simplicity of life that exists here that is nourishing for the soul - especially those coming from the hustle and bustle of larger cities. Being here offers you the opportunity to engage with another culture and to live as the locals do.  This can be in the form of buying the fresh catch of local fish from the red fish truck that comes into town daily, to getting your home-made tortillas from the toritillaria located next to the kindergarten in a simple wooden hut, to eating at a local restaurant and chatting with the owner/chef.  The village center is an easy 10 minute walk from our Villa.
