Getting Here

The major airport you fly into is Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo (ZIH).  It is a 35 minute drive from the airport to the beach village of Troncones.  It is a very small, mellow airport that usually only has a couple flights coming in each day.  Ixtapa is a popular destination for tourists seeking a more contrived, "all-inclusive" feel to their vacation.  This is where the big high-rise hotels, the Senor Frogs and the cheesy souvinere shops are.  It is the "Cancun of the West" (though a smaller version).  Zihuatenejo is a legitimate Mexican town with all of your major stores, several tame beaches, and a bustling Mexican life.

There are several hubs in the U.S. that offer direct flights into ZIH, however most flights do not.  You may consider finding the cheapest flight (usually Southwest) to Los Angeles or Houstin, then look for a separate flight from here. Flying into Mexico City first may also offer cheaper fares.  In the next 5 years there is expectation for more direct flights into this area.

Once you fly into ZIH, there are 3 ways that you can get to Troncones (just a 35 minute drive to the north).
1) Rent a car.

2) Take a taxi.
This is probably easiest and less stressful overall, though it is costly to and from the airport.  The taxi drivers really have a monopoly over the whole situation and therefore charge you a pretty penny.  Be prepared to spend $60-80 US ($700 pesos - $900 pesos) on your cab ride to Troncones, and about $45-60 US on the return trip to the airport on the backside.  This is a time to practice your haggling!

3) Take an adventurous route with public transportation.
Getting out of the airport will be the hardest part (and most expensive), but if you want to save a little bit of money and have an adventure at the front end of your trip, try this. We have yet to try it (due to traveling with several young children and wanting to avoid melt downs and just get to our place), but it is possible to do!

To get to Troncones, you follow signs north towards Ixtapa and stay to the right as the roads split (to the left brings you into Ixtapa).  Travel along this highway for another 20 minutes until you see the exit for "Playa Troncones".  Follow this road until you reach a "T" and take a right.  This road parallels the ocean (which you can see).  The Villas are located less than a mile from here on the left, after Present Moment.
